Welcome to the start of 2020, especially to our new Prep students. I am looking forward to the new school year and all the things we will be learning. I will be the Prep teacher this year at Coimadai Primary School. This is my second year at Coimadai Primary school, however after being the PE and STEM teacher last year, I am excited to be in a classroom full time this year. This is my first year teaching Prep and I am looking forward to the challenges and growth that comes with being a full time Prep teacher.
Prep Term 1 - 2020
Prep will be very exciting this term as we will be doing lots of new things in our classroom. We will be learning our letters and sounds, WOW words, writing our names, learning our numbers, days of the week, months of the year, “All about me”, and developing an effective routine for our classroom, just to name a few.
As you may already know, Preps will get to have the day off on Wednesday for the first couple of week, it is during this time that I will conducting testing for the new Preps. This testing is to assess what students may or may not already know coming into Prep. This testing will help me gain a better understanding of my student’s strengths and needs. I will be making appointments and sending notes home with the appointments attached for all Parents/ Guardians.
PE Term 1 - 2020:
As well as being the Prep teacher this year, I will also be the PE teacher. Last year our students got exposed to lots of different sports and skills like Athletics, Hockey, T-ball and Cricket. This year we will be exploring some new sports and we will be revisiting some of the skills we learnt last year as well. While the older students will be learning new sports, the Prep students will be partaking in a program called PMP (perceptual motor program). PMP is a program for younger students that involves crawling through large wooden triangles and squares, walking heel to toe across a balance beam, skipping through a maze of traffic cones, and jumping in and out of hoopla hoops etc. Students will be moving from station to station to have fun while improving their gross motor skills, balance and coordination.
I cannot wait to see what this year has to offer for myself and for my students. I wish all the students the best of luck for this year and look forward to seeing you all back at school on Wednesday the 28th of January.
