Coimadai Primary School is situated in a unique, rural setting surrounded by open space and farmland with a magnificent view of Lake Merrimu. Our purpose is to provide, in a nurturing environment, a quality education that challenges all students to attain their highest potential academically, socially and emotionally, creatively and physically. Coimadai Primary School is proudly a safe and welcoming school for everyone. We promote success and aim to develop students who are optimistic and confident community members.
We are committed to excellence and equity in teaching and learning. Our Instructional Model provides a framework for teachers to plan and deliver high-quality lessons for all students, while allowing teacher flexibility and creativity. We create an atmosphere that fosters a responsibility to learn, co-operation and practising self-discipline. Our smaller class sizes allow for maximum interaction between teacher and student. Enrolments have remained consistent over the past few years with 72 students attending in 2023. This allows all teachers to develop strong positive relationships with all students across the school.
Our key curriculum emphasis is on the development of literacy and numeracy.
Our literacy teaching is informed by the Science of Reading, with Systematic Synthetic Phonics taught P-2, and consistent strategies for students in Literacy in Tier 1, 2 and 3. We teach and assess the Big 5 of Reading, and have a strong focus on morphology and syntax.
Numeracy is the knowledge, skills, behaviours and dispositions that students need in order to use mathematics in a wide range of situations. Children begin to experience and explore mathematical concepts from birth. With support, they participate in mathematical thinking and use mathematical concepts to organise, record and communicate ideas about the world around them.
At Coimadai Primary School we have daily focused numeracy sessions where a wide range of educational approaches, resources and strategies are used to meet the needs of each child. Teachers use a range of formal and informal assessment and evaluation strategies to measure student progress, learning styles and future needs.
At Coimadai Primary School we provide an engaging Numeracy Program by:
Regular Professional Learning Community meetings facilitate ongoing professional development of our teaching staff, leading to improved outcomes for our students. We have a supportive, friendly team which includes 1 principal, 5 teachers across 4 classrooms, 3 specialist teachers, a Welfare officer, a Business Manager, and Educational Support officers.
