A timetable has been sent home for you, please let us know if you need another one. One mum said she put the timetable on the fridge and it helped daily organisation for her child.
Students will require a library bag for book borrowing and are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear for Physical Education and for playing in the playground.
Please ensure that all items of clothing, lunch boxes, drink bottles, etc, are labelled with your child’s name.
The students are able to bring their drink bottles and small healthy snacks such as dried fruit and fresh fruit or vegetables cut up into class so that they may access them whenever they need to and during Munch ‘n’ Crunch time.
Beginning of the Day
Teachers are in the class from 8.45 am and we encourage students to be in the class 5 to 10 minutes prior to the start of school each morning to prepare for the day ahead. This helps foster independence and responsibility, and makes for a settled start to their school day. Parents are, of course, welcome to speak with teachers briefly before school if necessary. Parents can support their children’s learning by ensuring that they are at school on time and by allowing them to come into class and prepare for lessons independently. Before school begins, children should make sure they have brought in their reader packs, drink bottles and their Munch ‘n’ Crunch.
When the music plays 5 minutes before the morning bell, all students walk or run a lap around the running track.
End of the Day
At the end of the day, a teacher will accompany your child to the dismissal area near the shedatorium. A teacher will be there supervising until all children have been collected. Please notify us if someone else is collecting your child.
After School Care and Collection
Please notify the teachers of the days that your child will be going to after school care and if there are any changes to this arrangement.
Absences
It is a school priority to improve the attendance rate of our students. If your child is absent for any reason, please report absence on COMPASS or call 035367 2907 or text 0409 589 888 the school prior to 9 am with your child’s name, year level, reason for absence and expected return date. Student’s absences are recorded on the Education Department database. Unexplained absences will be followed up. Should you need to remove your child from school during the day, you need to first visit the office to sign your child out for the day.
Lateness
It is essential that you first visit the office if you arrive at school after 9.15 am. As per Departmental policy, we are required to enter any lateness to arrive at school into the Education Department database.
Hats
Term 1 and 4 HATS– please remember that if your child does not have a hat then the NO HAT NO PLAY IN THE SUN policy applies.
BE READY TO LEARN.
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO LEARN.
EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE
These are important expectations that support the teaching and learning in our class at Coimadai Primary School. Students may be acknowledged at assemblies for demonstrating these.
Coimadai Parent Information Handbook
Most information regarding school routines and procedures can be found in the Coimadai Parent Information Handbook. Parents are encouraged to read the document carefully. Information is also available on the school web page.
Parent Help
We would love to have parents’ assistance during some of our morning sessions. We will notify you later when we need help.
Homework
Homework consists of regular home reading. This is per our school policy and Departmental guidelines. We also provide a Take Home folder for weekly practise of the letters, sounds and words that we have been learning in class.
Parent/Teacher Interviews and Student Reports
Based on Victorian Department of Education and training (DET) guidelines, Coimadai Primary School currently communicates student learning and growth to parents over the course of the year, using the following strategies:
• Term 1 Parent/Teacher interviews - this is an opportunity for parents to meet the classroom teacher and for both parties to share valuable information regarding the child’s development. They involve a 10-15 minute discussion about your child.
• Term 2 Parent/Student/Teacher interviews to discuss academic progress.
• Term 2 and 4 written reports are sent home
Assembly
We will have our school assemblies on Friday afternoon at 3.10pm. Principal Awards are handed out at each assembly. Photographs are taken and your child’s name will be celebrated in the following week’s newsletter.
Notes and information for home
Notes will be placed in your child’s diary which should be in their reader pack. All communication will be through COMPASS. Please let us know if you need help with this.
Please contact us should you require any further information.
